              brake servo
 There is
a real need to maintain the brake hoses, the brake master cylinder
seals, the brake slave cylinder seals and the flexible brake hoses,
not to mention the servo itself. On
reading this item and the piece in the forthcoming V8 Newsletter
in the April 2022 issue of Safety Fast! you may turn the page and
think "it's unlikely to happen to me" and park the idea
of a replacement brake servo or even having the brake servo checked
              and serviced.

Well an instant loss of brakes - when your foot on the brake pedal
goes flat to the floor - has happened to the V8 Webmaster (Victor
Smith), a former V8 Treasurer (Jim Gibson), our technical articles
contributor (Tony Lake) and our new V8 Scribe (Peter Berry) and
another dozen members too! Your spine feels ice cold for a week
later when you experience a loss of brakes! So do think carefully
              - this is not scaremongering but a service risk you do need to have
checked and not delayed - until your brake servo fails.

servo failureWith the introduction of the MGBGTV8 in 1973, the luxury of
servo braking arrived providing reliable and powerful braking
for the high performance MGB model. As the V8 model approaches
its 50th year, a number of the components are clearly ageing
and preventative maintenance needs to be considered. The V8
has a hydraulic braking system that comprises a remote or
indirect servo on a single circuit braking system, so a serious
servo brake fluid leak or a failure on the single brake circuit
can lead to a complete loss of brakes. Consequently there
is a real need to maintain the brake hoses, the brake master
cylinder seals, the brake slave cylinder seals and the flexible
brake hoses, not to mention the servo itself.

You can see illustrated diagrams describing how the Lockheed
servo works on the MGBGTV8 and how they can fail on the More
                    webpage

Over the years we have seen reports from members of over ten
servo failures and three cases are reviewed in a feature article
in the four page V8 Newsletter due to be published in the
April 2022 issue of Safety Fast! which will hit members' doormats
on or just before the start of April. It will be worth reviewing
                    - if you go to the "More" webpage and click the
                    link to "See all the
V8 Columns and V8 Newsletters" you can see the forthcoming
                    V8 Newsletter - see page 3. Lockheed

Want to replace your brake servo?
Some years ago we ran a campaign to encourage members to replace
their brake servo as a preventative measure and Brown &

& replace offer". Well on seeing the feature article
