An
event to celebrate 40 years of the post-Abingdon MGs
Two decades after the MG Factory at Abingdon closed and then
with British Leyland also no more. its successor had evolved
into the Rover Group which was trying to create a niche in a
competitive market place. To maintain the MG brand the Rover
Group embarked on a bold plan to recapture some of the old MG
sportscar attraction - the result was the retro classic MG RV8
built between 1992 and 1995 which paved the way for a new generation
of popular MG sportscars.
In 2002 and 2023 the V8 Register will be celebrating the launch
of the MG RV8 model and its production and sale to enthusiasts
in the Uk and Europe and substantial sales in Japan. Many of
the RV8s exported to Japan are finding their way back to the
UK and many also are going to V8 enthusiasts in Australia and
New Zealand where they are seen today as a very desirable classic
MG with a retro classic style and a modern injected engine.
The RV8 was certainly part of that transition from a low point
in MG history through to the next generation of post-Abingdon
MGs.
To celebrate the 40 years of the post-Abingdon transition for
MG, the V8 Register is supporting the event at the RAF Museum
at Cosford over the weekend Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th July
2022. Details of the event to follow soon. |
