Uncovering
the car behind the MGBGTV8 model
Former owner, Mike Benton, says "It would be interesting to find
out how my old car became the subject the model car featured in the
V8 Column (September 2021 issue of Safety Fast!) considering it must
have lost its original registration ten years ago when it was purchased
by a German enthusiast and driven back to his home to Dusseldorf!"

This
MGBGTV8 model is an early chrome bumper example, Bracken
0942, that went through paint finishing on 5th November 1973
and was despatched to Lowndes Garages in Carmarthen.
Peter Ellis reported
he had seen "two new 1/18 scale V8s (one in Harvest Gold
the other in Bracken) are coming out in September 2021. They
are on the Cult
Scale Models website. There is also some more information
after scrolling down past the Sunbeam on the Model Auto Review
website

MGBGTV8 advertised for sale in July 2010
Mike Benton has been in touch to saying "I was interested
to see the registration number of an MGBGTV8 that I owned eleven
years ago on the photo of the V8 model featured in the V8 Column
in th recent issue of Safety Fast! I bought RCY 497M in 2010
from a general secondhand car dealer in Southbourne Bournemouth.
It was advertised as a 1973 model the 100th one ver built'
and was registered on 18th February 1974. I improved and enjoyed
the car for a while and later sold it to a German MG enthusiast
to fund my purchase of an RV8. The new owner drove the car back
home to Dusseldorf and as far as I am aware its still
there and has never returned to the UK (according to the online
DVLA vehicle check records). It would be interesting to find
out how my old car became the subject the model car features,
considering it must have lost its original registration ten
years ago!" See
