In 2023 we
will have the 50th anniversary of the launch of the MGBGTV8 model
in August 1973 and the 45th anniversary of the formation of the V8
Register five years later in 1978. We will also have the 30th anniversary
of the start of RV8 production in 1993.
As the 50th anniversary is a major milestone we need to begin thinking
ahead with ideas of how we can celebrate that milestone year and the
anniversary date of the launch of the MGBGTV8 on 15th August 1973
at the Earls Court motor show in October 1973.
News of anniversary events in the UK and overseas will be posted here
as planned events are announced.

50th
anniversary of the launch of the MGBGTV8 in August 1973
The MGBGTV8 was launched in August 1973 at the Motor Show at
Earls Court in London. A video clip catches the period style
of motor show reporting with references to the "window
dressing more or less as before!" The V8s featured at the
show were Citron 0798 on display on a ramp with the logo "the
new 124mph MGB GT V8" and Aconite 0799 on the stand. More

30th
anniversary of the production of RV8s in 1993
Launched at the 1992 British International Motor Show, the new
MG was still in the pre-production stage. At the end of March
1993 the first production RV8 was completed and the first 6
customer cars followed as a batch by 19th April. The press release
announced "so far some 200 firm orders have been placed".
The motoring press produced their articles and road tests including
Car magazine in June 1993 with an extensive set of RV8 articles
including a test against the TVR Chimaera. More |
