The
All-Party Parliamentary Historic Vehicle Group (HVG) has
ruled out campaigning for changes to the present rolling tax
exemption for classic cars. Although a recent survey by
the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs (FBHVC) showed
increased amounts of spending by owners of historic vehicles
and an increase in the number of historic vehicles more than
30 years old, the HVG chair, Sir Greg Knight MP, said he supported
the 40 year rolling exemption introduced in 2014 but ruled out
pressing for a 30 year rollover change proposed by an online
petition.
Comment: the 40 year road tax concession was a very welcome
benefit for classic cars which clock up modest annual mileages,
but pressing too energetically for more concessions could easily
have unintended consequences. |
