How
to see what's new on the V8 Website? See our useful guide to our Recent
Changes webpage where all new material posted to the V8 Website is listed as links
on a daily basis. More
ChangeDetection.com It's
a useful service that monitors a webpage for you and then sends you an email notification
when a change to that webpage has been made. With the V8 Website we have an
innovative webpage called Recent Changes which has links on a daily basis to all
new material posted to the V8 Website. That enables visitors to the website
to see "what's new" easily. So coupled with the live ChangeDetection.com
service that convenience is made even easier. See the helpful guide notes alongside
to setting up a notifications service with ChangeDetection.com provided by fellow
V8 member Malcolm Bailey.
Before releasing this webpage, the V8 Webmaster
set up a trial notification service with ChangeDetection.com to see how easy creating
the service is and then how good the notification service proved to be in action.
The result has been very good - why not give it a try!

How
do you sign up for the service? Malcom explains "the signup process
is more straightforward than for VisualPing (another notification service) and
the results from ChangeDetection are clearer. The only downside I can see is that
the emails look as they are from a "robot", which might cause them to
be sent to your spam folder, in which case you should mark them as "not spam"
by whichever method your email client/service uses.
To get started,
go to https://www.changedetection.com/
and enter the address of the page you wish to monitor and receive change detection
notifications - for monitoring the Recent Changes webpage that is: http://www.v8register.net/subpages/websiteupdatelog.htm
and then enter your email address below that and click Next.

Select
your preferences on the next page and click Create. You will receive an email
containing a link that you will need to click on to confirm your email address.
The email also contains a confirmation code which can be entered exactly as shown
(or copied and pasted) if the page doesn't show the same code.
Enter a
secure password twice, tick the box next to the "I have read and agree to
the ChangeDetection.com terms and conditions", then click Submit.
The
ChangeDetection service seems reliable and straightforward. It was started in
1999 and has one or two personal touches, in particular the disclaimer in the
Terms & Conditions at https://www.changedetection.com/policy.html, which reads
"Hey, this is a free service. We reserve the right to shut it down, kick
you off, send invalid results, and fail in any way possible.". I like that
kind of honesty!"
Malcolm ends his note saying there is also a useful
FAQ page at https://www.changedetection.com/faq.html
What
does a typical notification email from ChangeDetection.com look like? Typical
email notification you will see from ChangeDetection.com is:
