Sulgrave
was the location of many of the popular annual V8 Register dinners in the 1980s
and 90s. | Sulgrave
is a popular South Northamptonshire conservation village situated in undulating
countryside close to the North Oxfordshire border. The Star Inn is over 300 years
old and lies close to Sulgrave Manor, the ancestral home of the first president
of the United States, George Washington. It is also the only English public house
known to have been frequented by the legendary actor John "Duke" Wayne.
On
a visit to Sulgrave in 1889 the honourable William Taft, Chief Justice of America
said, "Sulgrave is a charming little spot only hidden in the loveliness of
its seclusion, with the old Star inn by the roadside a relic of bygone days when
comforts were plain and ale was plenty". |
