DVLA
move to clear up registration plate confusion
Are you confused
by new car registration plate changes? With so many DVLA changes to the number
plate system over recent years, it is no surprise that many people do not know
how to tell what the year of a car on the road is by its number plate. This year
DVLA now have two plate changes per year and this year for cars registered from
March to August the number plate will be a "17" plate
and from September 2017 to February 2018 it will be a "67"
plate.

current format for vehicle registration numbers was introduced by DVLA on 1st
September 2001 for all new vehicles being registered in the UK. The format is
two letters, two numbers, a space and three further letters. The first two letters
are the DVLA memory tag, the two numbers (the age identifier) indicate the age
of the vehicle, and the last three letters are random. DVLA
