Contributors
in 2016 The articles and news items on the V8 website, in our columns
in Safety Fast! and in our two workshop notes series depend on the contributions
from fellow members. So what have we seen from our contributors in 2016?
 Dugald
MacNeill and Mike Macartney celebrating
Mike reaching the 100th report in mid December 2016. Dugald has visited Mike many
times to lend a hand with the rebuild work.
 Nic
Houslip - we hear he's getting a selfie
stick for Christmas so we hope a better photo will follow!

Rebuild reports from Mike Macartney The regular reports from Mike
Macartney on the progress of his V8 Roadster rebuild have been both
an impressive contribution in terms of the detail and frequency but also in terms
of the frank and amusing style Mike has used. The detail revealed as the work
progresses and the frustrations at times are a feature of the honesty of the reports.
They have been popular with fellow V8 members as they have shown so much detail
as the series sailed past the 100th report in mid December 2016. Mike posted
59 reports in 2016, many with 8 pages of material as A4L twin column PDF documents
full of photos of the work in progress. That was 359 A4L pages in 2016!

the RV8 Engine Management System Following a query on the V8BB seeking
help with fault finding for the fuel injection on an RV8, Nic
Houslip set about drafting a very readable initial note explaining
what the system does and then Dave Morris
produced a detailed 6 page article on the engine management system with the help
of John Anthistle and John
Hale. They also covered the options for owners who want to upgrade
their cars by chipping or remapping their engines.
A reduced two page article was included in the V8 Newsletter in the August 2016
issue of Safety Fast! Introduction

by BGTV8 John Upton enjoyed having
his MGBGTV8 in Africa when he lived there (his article on running a V8 in Africa was
an interesting read) and in a three page article he described another adventure
-how he took his V8 to Sorrento for his daughters wedding so it could be
their wedding car. The article described the route from southwest France to Italy
via Sardinia. The article was released on the V8 website and a reduced single
page article was in the V8 Newsletter in the December 2016 issue of Safety Fast!

sump gasket reinforcing strips Oil leaks from V8 gaskets are a frequent
problem and following a V8BB thread discussing the suitability of several gaskets
and sealants, Tony Lake described in an article
how the problem is down to the light steel section used on the sump. He then mentioned
he had some sketches of steel stiffening pieces he had made to overcome the problem
and solve the leaks. A link in the article went to detailed sketches. Article | | Check
your plastic breather pipe is not missing Derek
Squires spotted something on the garage floor under his RV8 which turned
out to be the plastic breather on the rear axle. Later Jonathan
Buckley contributed some useful information after he was unimpressed
with the quality of replacement plastic breathers. His research found the Land
Rover Defender & Range Rover models used a similar rear axle breather but
in brass incorporating a non return valve to exclude water and dirt. The note
was added to both workshop notes series and appeared in the April 2016 issue of
