A report on the petrolprices.com website notes "while prices did undoubtedly climb towards the end of August 2016, there was a visible dip in the middle of the month. This was primarily driven by competitive supermarket pricing. Based on our own figures (which we’ve carefully checked and double checked), this resulted in the average prices across August being lower than those throughout July.

So, let’s look at average prices across the entire month of August 2016. Unleaded actually went down by 1.4 pence per litre (from 111.9p to 110.5p), and diesel went down by a smaller 0.8 pence per litre (from 112.4p to 111.6p) ". Report
