Nic Houslip has the RV8 formerly owned by the late
Bill Wallis, our former Club President, who would have been delighted to see his
old RV8 being used as a sports car!

Houslip competed at the Bentley Drivers Club Sprint held at MIRA’s (Motor
Industry Research Association) Test track at Nuneaton last Saturday and had a
great time. I decided that it was too late in the season not to have had an adrenalin
rush, so got the RV8 ready.
The day was slightly overcast and pleasantly
warm, a bacon sandwich and a cuppa saw me ready for our first runs. I managed
a 73 secs, then a 71 secs then a 69.17 beating my handicap. On the last run I
thought I could do better and had a really fast pace through the looong left-hand
curve, where you have to keep your foot down and let the car oversteer you round
to get a fast time, past the speed trap on the straight, but unfortunately under
| extremely
hard braking for the sharp right hander of the S bend the back wheel locking gremlin
took control from me and I spun out. I was content with a 69.14 on standard
road tyres. The MX5 and other hot cars were in the mid and lower 60s on sticky
rubber.
The Journey home started OK, but after a day of sunshine I encountered
in less than 5 miles on the M42, rain, torrential rain, thunder and lightning,
hail and them more rain. I had to press on as I had the hood down and nowhere
to stop under cover to put it up! |
