today's copy of Classic Car Weekly there is a lead article reporting "the
Government rules out extending NIL rate VED for younger classics despite the petition
calling for it" and the "Treasury says that the current 40 year rule
is sufficient. Retaining the 40 year cut-off means that about 10,000 historic
vehicles benefit from NIL value VED". The article continues on page 3 where
it reports the petitioner "Logan Walker says he'll continue promoting the
petition". The petition is said to have attracted just over 18,000 signatures
but needs to reach 100,000 signatures to prompt a Commons debate on it".
Many people in the classic car world are concerned that a loud campaign may bring
unintended consequences and would prefer to see | more
subtle methods through the effective channels established by the movement's representative
body, the FBHVC.
