V8NOTES
series of spares and service tips nears 500!
The first volume
of the V8 Workshop Notes series was published as the "First Fifty" as
there were fifty notes - well that's not entirely true, there were 54 notes
- 50b a sequel to note 50 contributed by Peter Laidler on the V8 gearbox and three
"Tail End Tips" with Jerry Bright's caution on a rubbing oil hose, Geoff
Allen's tip of a 3mm packing plate under the offside engine mounting and the positioning
of the chrome V8 badge on the nearside wing and tailgate.
Extraordinary
range of useful notes When you scan down the Contents listing for the series
there is an extraordinary range of useful topics in the 13 volumes. So on reaching
500, plus the four notes mentioned above, that would be a rate of note generation
of 1.17 workshop notes per month over the 36 years! Very few classic car groups
can match that. The editors over the years have included David Knowles and Victor
Smith.
Help the series reach 500 For each V8NOTE contributed
to reach V8NOTE500, the member sending in the note will receive a free copy of
the whole V8NOTES series on a USB Twister as soon as V8NOTE500 is published. So
let's have your contributions with useful spares and servicing tips. Send them
to the Editor of the series. Email Posted:

 | The
V8NOTES series, which began with a note on servicing a V8 water pump from John
Dupont in April 1979, is rapidly approaching a major milestone of 500 notes.
This week we released the latest note in the series - V8NOTE494
- on the FilterMag magnetic oil filter wrap. This useful tip came from a thread
on the V8 Bulletin Board, a regular source of contributions from fellow members.
In this case Ian Haynes and Victor Todman came up with clear information based
on their direct experience of the product and its effectiveness which is a practical
alternative to a magnetic engine sump drain plug sought by John Hale who launched
the thread. The article on how to make a good crimp on a bullet or Faston connector
will be added to the series as V8NOTE495 so we need five more notes to reach
the 500 milestone.
For each V8NOTE contributed to reach V8NOTE500,
the member sending in the note will receive a free copy of the whole V8NOTES series
on a USB Twister as soon as V8NOTE500 is published. So let's have your contributions
with useful spares and servicing tips. Email |
