With the the Le Mans race weekend approaching Chris Hunt Cooke has responded to the launch of our 24H Le Mans webpage saying "talking of Le Mans, a new documentary is being made about the making of the iconic Le Mans film, using lots of previously unseen footage. You can sign up for news about this project. And the original film is on line in its entirety. I have always loved the opening sequence with Steve McQueen driving through the French countryside early in the morning in his 911 on his way to Le Mans." See McQueen's Le Mans film

Steve McQueen's 'Le Mans' project: New film features remarkable unseen footage and outtakes
An article in the Independent newspaper in mid May recalled "Steve McQueen was at his absolute height as a movie star when he began work on his passion project Le Mans (1971). Thanks to a string of successes like Bullitt and The Thomas Crown Affair, he was one of the most powerful figures in Hollywood, able to choose his own projects and set his own terms. Fans revered him as the coolest, most charismatic actor of his generation."
The new documentary is directed by Gabriel Clarke and John McKenna. What has been causing huge excitement among motor racing and film fans alike is the wealth of unseen footage that the film-makers have turned up of McQueen's folie de grandeur. They have made extraordinary efforts to track down the missing footage. Part of the reason they feel that this is an inspirational story for their new documentary is that "you go into dark places with Steve McQueen – and you do realise that his was a flawed character. He was a genius of a man." That's one of the things the duo hope to put across is that he was a visionary. See the Independent article
