New
B&G website
Creating
and launching a major upgrade to a complex website is a major challenge, not to
mention a heavy workload. When the V8 website underwent a redesign with a wider
webpage and a more modern design in early 2014 that proved a major exercise for
the V8 webmaster, even concentrating on the core webpages initially and later
rolling out the change into the website as a continuing process. Members may be
surprised to learn that the V8 website now has over 3,500 webpages and PDF documents
and is 1.86 GB on the webhost's server. So with that experience as a guide, the
V8 webmaster feels the task facing Louise and her colleagues at B&G with their
new website is truly daunting. But the improved website will be worth it.
If
you have any difficulty tracing parts online you can contact B&G by telephone
or email.

& Gammons has launched a new style website with an upgrade to their online
parts catalogue and online sales system. With the large range of MGs they cover
from T Types through to the latest MG3 and 6 models, the upgrade is a massive
task and there is still work to be done. A notice on the B&G homepage says
"our exploded diagrams are not available currently, but will be back online
shortly". Already progress in getting those images online again is being
made but with the huge number of parts they stock that is a daunting task. The
notice also mentions customer logins from the old site will not work on the new
website so when you are ready to purchase an item there you will need to enter
your details to create a new customer account.
Nic Houslip was in touch
to say he had found a link on the MGBGTV8 workshop manuals webpage on the V8 website
to one of the manuals available from B&G's online parts shop was not working.
I spoke with Louise at B&G on Saturday morning who confirmed any previous
external links to parts on their site were no longer working. So I am working
my way through the V8 website to identify the webpages where we have links to
the B&G website and then obtaining the correct link to remake a new link.
One thing Louise did mention is the SEARCH box on the new B&G website needs
further adjustment so it will accept key words to trace parts - at present
you have to type in the exact name or code used in the display of a parts item
to get a successful routing to the correct webpage. So for example I have
traced the correct new link for the "MGRV8 CD Workshop Manual"
by typing in those words and reached the correct link
. I have not yet found the MGB Workshop Manual AKD 3259, V8 Workshop Manual Supplement
AKD 8468 or the V8 Driver's Handbook AKD 8423 on the B&G website so the links
on our webpage
to those parts on the B&G website remain down for the time being.
I
have suggested to Louise that a side menu item for "books and publications"
is included as that will enable a visitor to hunt down workshop manuals and similar
items more easily.
