The California Cup has been the Club’s premier autotest for more than 50 years; but last year’s entry was lower than usual, with no more than a handful of Centres and Registers represented. So secretary of the meeting, Neil Lock, has been in touch asking for our support in generating interest amongst V8 members. Neil says "we have all-new test layouts for 2015, and a new range of Register-based competitions to supplement the traditional inter-Centre contest for the California Cup itself. The event is fully marshalled, with four tests run in parallel to minimise waiting times. It would be amazing to get teams from each and every Centre and Register – please do all you can to help make that happen.

If you want further information on the California Cup then please get in touch with Neil Lock (Secretary of the meeting) or visit the SW Centre website for more information and a copy of the California Cup 2015 Supplementary Regulations .

What is the California Cup?
The California Cup Autotest comprises a series of tests laid out on tarmac, run concurrently to avoid waiting time. The organising team is familiar with the quirks of the MG breed – so the tests are designed to provide a challenge to the modified Midgets while at the same time providing plenty of fun for the more sedate vehicles… if you end up doing a three-point-turn, even in your 18/80, then you’ve probably done something wrong! The event is fully marshalled, so there’s no hopping in and out of cars unless you want to take advantage of the best coffee shop at Silverstone.

The California Cup is are awarded to the fastest team of three MGs representing their geographical Centre. Entries do not have to be ‘official’, just find two friends from your Centre and make up a team! Some Centres take the event very seriously and formally select their teams!
