Wonderful day at the Lower Hall gardens

An impromptu tour of the village plant nursery near Lower Hall was a revelation as well as being entertaining.

Clive Wheatley arranged a private visit to the beautiful gardens at Lower Hall, a privately owned 16th century timber house in the centre of Worfield, a village 3½ half miles east of Bridgnorth in Shropshire. The visit to Lower Hall was on Sunday 17th August was blessed by beautiful weather and touring the 4 acre gardens was a sheer delight - the formal gardens with fragrant roses and herbaceous borders, orchards and a riverside landscaped area with a series of glades.

Worfield is an extraordinary village tucked away in a valley just east of Bridgnorth and is beautiful with its many well maintained period buildings. In many ways it feels like a village that time has forgotten but we heard it is a village with a wonderful spirit and very active with a new cricket pavilion for the village cricket team.

One feature of the day was a visit to the local church where Ian Quarrington was invited by the lady vicar to give an impromptu organ recital. The lady vicar and her husband joined the group for lunch and when invited to sit in a V8 she hopped in with alacrity - so the V8 felt truly blessed!
The catering at Lower Hall was provided by three generous volunteers from Worfield village, June and Ivy with the support of Dorothy.
