 | Sad
news from Akron Ohio is a popular V8 enthusiast John Targett passed away on Tuesday
night (EST) after several setbacks following major abdominal surgery in the second
half of 2013. His enthusiasm for life saw him competing in several racing series
in the US in his replica works MGB Roadster and frequent visits to the UK for
the MG Show at Stoneleigh, the MGLive! weekend and the Goodwood Revival. Many
friends and acquaintances will miss his smile and cheerful conversation a very
great deal. For my part much of my enjoyment of MGs over the last 40 years
and more, and of course Goodwood, has been in his warm and cheerful company. One
memory from my racing years driving a standard MGB Roadster alongside John in
the BRSCC Prodsports era in the early 1970s was of his passing me on the Club
Straight at a relative speed of some 3 to 4 mph and his face turned grinning at
me with a hand waving urging me on! Sadly my exit from the Beckets hairpin was
not as clean as his so his exit speed was higher which carried down the straight!
