 | On
the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the start of World War I, the MG Car
Club Belgium is organising an International Commemoration Weekend. The tour of
remembrance will visit the Westhoek, a pivotal scene where during
World War I a fierce battle was fought along the Yser and the hills around Ypres.
Particularly the flooding of the low-lying Yser plain, from the lock complex in
Nieuwpoort, made sure any further movement of the occupier in the Belgian sector
of the front was paralysed for 4 more years. As Nieuwpoort clearly had a strategic
role in determining the course of WWI the organisers of the tour have decided
to start the commemoration weekend there. Full details of the tour programme
and how to book are available in a comprehensive briefing paper prepared by MG
Car Club Belgium. More
