MG
GTs article Motoring
journalist Mike Taylor gathered together four GT variants of the MGB to see how
their owners felt about them - the result an interesting article in the December
issue of MG Enthusiast.
V8
enthusiasts Peter Kuruber (a former MGBGTV8 and RV8 owner, now with his
RV8GT) and Victor Smith (MGBGTV8) joined Neil Hyett (MGBGT) and
Colin Butcher (MGCGT) for Mike Taylor's session.

 | Motoring
journalist Mike Taylor brought together four MG enthusiasts with their GTs - his
idea was to get the owners of each car to enjoy a day travelling as passenger
in the other GTs and then discuss what they felt about them. The MGBGT
is such an attractive and timeless design which has appealed to so many over the
years - both owners and those who wished they could |
get
one and enjoy classic car driving. The Factory produced variants - the MGCGT
and the MGBGTV8 - seem so similar to the casual observer but are in so
many ways cars with different characters, not least larger and more powerful engines
and handling.
Mike Taylor went one stage further and included an RV8GT
in the group of GTs, a car that was not a production model but one a number of
enthusiasts in the UK and Australia have created as a conversion by combining
an MGBGT shell and body panels with a great deal of material from a donor RV8
roadster originally produced by MG Rover. The donor RV8 is usually a crash damaged
car. Peter Kuruber's RV8GT was originally built by V8 enthusiast Philip Jones
in Dorset.
Mike Taylor's five page article is well conceived, well
written and a good read with some first class photos. The comments of the four
enthusiasts on the various models show subtle insights into the cars' characters,
qualities and foibles. Which of the cars did the group particularly enjoy? Well
it's worth getting hold of a copy of the December issue so you can see how balanced
the views were. The December issue is out on the newsstands now at £4.25
- see the front cover alongside and the title page of the article above - MG GTs
