Lined
up outside the John Thornley Suite at Club Office
in Abingdon last week are four MG GTs - an
MGBGT (1974), an MGCGT (1968), an MGBGTV8 (1973)
and an MGRV8GT (2000) - ready for a photoshoot near
the aerodrome at RAF Abingdon and then an exercise
to compare the appearance, comfort, ride and performance
of each model. Each model has it characteristics
but many feel the understated style and performance
of the V8 engined MGBGTV8 is particularly attractive.
It also has a better fuel consumption than many
might believe - when driven in touring conditions,
even briskly, the V8 will return mpg figures only
a little higher than the 1795 MGBGT.
The MGRV8GT conversion was built by a fastidious
owner in 1998/2000 using a 1972 MGBGT bodyshell with an accident damaged RV8 as
the donor of all mechanical and interior parts. It's finished in Dodge Viper Blue
(metallic). | | |
