Fair
deal for your local pub The
campaign run by Fair Deal group gives you the opportunity to have your say and
a simple way to help the campaign without committing you to a great deal of time.
My local pub has a leasehold
(rather than a tenancy) where the Freeholder is a major brewery requiring the
publican to buy only the beers it selects at the prices it determines. The publican
has sent an email to all its loyal and regular customers in the hope they can
spare a few minutes to help secure a future for their local pub. V8
Webmaster NOTE:

 | You
have no doubt noticed that many local pubs have either closed or have a series
of a new publicans who start with the greatest intentions and ambitions, only
to go bust in a year or so. These pubs are generally perfectly viable but are
being bled dry by an inequitable ownership |
system
which allows the pub owning company to take more than their fair share from the
pub's profits. It is well established and acknowledged that there is a problem
in the industry. It's that some pubs' rents are far too high as well as a requirement
in the agreements for publicans to buy beer only from the pub owner at a massively
inflated price. What the Fair Deal group seek to do is rebalance the playing field
and give every pub, including your local, a chance to flourish. The
Government have published a Public Consultation on introducing a statutory
code with and an adjudicator to introduce fairness into the sector.
