V8 Register has outsourced the production and supply of a major part of the V8
Clothing range to a specialist supplier called Top Signs. This company has provided
similar services for the MG Car Club and a number of its centres and registers
for a while through an online shop Top Signs hosts on a dedicated website with
an online catalogue displaying the range of clothing items. Visitors to that online
shop can purchase items from Top Signs using the two online payment options -
either by using your PayPal account or by paying with your debit or
credit card as a PayPal guest using PayPal's Account Optional service. There
is no mail order purchase option. PayPal account - key payment and
service information For more information on a PayPal account. More
PayPal's Account Optional service When you use your credit or
debit card to purchase goods or services from an online merchant via the PayPal
Account Optional service, a sum of electronic money equivalent to the amount of
the purchase you are making is issued by PayPal and credited to the merchants
PayPal account as payment for the goods or services you are purchasing from him.
Your credit or debit card is therefore being used for the purchase of an amount
of e-money which is in turn being used as payment for the goods or services from
the merchant. Your credit or debit card statement will therefore show PayPal as
the merchant and not the merchant from whom you are purchasing the goods or services.
PayPal's Account Optional service is provided by PayPal (Europe) S.à r.l.
& Cie, S.C.A. which is authorised and regulated by the Commission de Surveillance
du Secteur Financier in Luxemburg. More
Distance Selling Regulations The Distance Selling Regulations
(DSR) were passed to protect consumers when they shop online or enter into other
contracts at a distance from the supplier. The rationale for giving consumers
special protection in such deals is that the consumer does not have the benefit
of meeting face-to-face with the supplier and inspecting the goods or services
offered for sale. The DSR give consumers a right to receive
clear information about the supplier, the goods or services and the price before
deciding to buy, confirmation of this information in writing, a cancellation period
of 7 clear working days in which to withdraw from the contract and protection
from payment card fraud. See a short guide from the UK Office of Fair Trading.
